
Religious Tensions
Ever since the beginning of any sort of religion, conflict has arose due to a difference in beliefs, from the crusades against the pagans by Charlemagne to the Holy Crusades organized by the Popes of the Catholic Church, Religion has and still does play a great part in influencing conflicts.


Israelo - Palestinian Conflict
Whilst not seemingly religious at first, this conflict all began due to the importance of the territory these two nations inhabit, the Holy Land. For the Jewish Israelis and the Muslim Palestinians, the religious and importance of the land is one of their main reasons.​​

Hindu - Muslim tensions in India
Although India is a secular nation, tensions persist between the Hindu majority and the Muslim minority. Events such as the 2002 Gujarat riots and the 2020 Delhi riots, along with discussions regarding the status of religious sites like the Babri Masjid/Ram Janmabhoomi.​​​

Iraq - Syria Sunni / Shia divide
The Sunni-Shia divide has significantly contributed to conflict in the Middle East, especially in Iraq and Syria. The emergence of extremist organizations such as ISIS has intensified sectarian violence between Sunnis and Shias. Religious identity is pivotal in these conflicts.​​​

In December 2024, an attack on a Melbourne synagogue sparked widespread condemnation from religious organizations. Faith leaders emphasized the need to protect places of worship and called for unity and safety among communities.​​
